SUNDAY KICKOFF – PERFECT PIGSKIN FREEBIE

September 9, 2012 by teacherideafactory

Okay, so I am absolutely beside myself that today is the first full Sunday of pigskin action.  The pizza dude is on speed dial, the beverages are chillin’ in the fridge, and I have my fantasy schedules locked in (more about this later)!

My madness doesn’t stop here.  And, you are probably already thinking I am nuts-o!!  Wait for it.  Wait for it . . . I am runnin’ with a fantastic football theme in class for the next two weeks.  From reading centers and math games to PE relays and craftivities, good old Room 13 will drenched in pigskin and teamwork. I am all about creating a crew of kiddos that functions as a “we” right off the bat and football has proven to be a perfect outlet for this.

We officially kicked off the theme on Friday with a little help from our friends (otherwise known as our fabulous 7th grade buddies).  They came up the hill and helped us create our newest class number line . . . football-style.

As you can see, the kids designed football helmets!  This has been a crowd pleaser for years, and this collection of sweet kiddos was just as delighted with the project (hooray)!
We jump started the whole craftivity with a HUGE discussion on teamwork and ways in which our class functions as a team.  The student generated responses were recorded on an anchor chart that will be posted throughout this unit (will snag a pic next time . . . I totally spaced it on Friday).  Then, our big buddies came up the hill to help us with our first football project – Line ‘Em Up.  Not only did they solidify our teamwork talk, but they also served as a perfect new number line for our classy-class (complete with number words)!

I absolutely love my new window display.  We are all so different, but we still roll as a team.  I am in the process of making a cool sign for that little hole down in the corner . . . it’ll be perfect.
Interested in trying this helmet craft in your class?  Check out my latest addition to TPT (it also comes with a math center follow up ditty too).  This puppy is free.  Yes, that’s right folks.  FREE!
Wanna roll with the whole football theme??  Well, I have you covered here too. I made this packet during the summer πŸ™‚  It’s packed with activities ranging from reading and math centers to teamwork tunes and craftivities.
Speaking of football, a bunch of bloggers got together to create a fantasy NFL league.  Yes siree . . . an all girl league . . . full of the sweetest of the sweet.  Just check out our cool crew . . .

Thank you so much for visiting sweet friends.  I will see you sooner rather than later with a little somthin’ – somethin’.

Whoop . . . whoop . . . will let that one slide Ms. Tessa πŸ™‚ I have no problem taking down friends on Sundays . . . hehehehehe. I shouldn't be talkin' smack yet. In the past it has often preceded an ugly and rather embarrassing defeat.

Hehehehe . . . we have Red Zone on Dish. It takes it to a whole new level. Every touchdown from every game. Yup! They switch from game to game when someone is about to score. It's maddening.
