STOP…DROP…AND EMBRACE FIRE SAFETY WEEK

October 8, 2012 by teacherideafactory

All right y’all.  It’s fire safety week and I am going to embrace it this year.  To be completely honest, I have never really touched on this much . . . or at all (shame on you Mrs. Dolling).  But, this year I realized that many of my kids are pretty clueless about some basic life lessons these days.  So, I climbed up on that big old “fire truck” with my kiddos today and started schoolin’ them in basic fire safety.

This awesome ditty is part of Ms. Cupcake’s Fire Safety Kids Packet.
(read more about it below).

I couldn’t have kicked off this mini-unit all by myself . . . I had some serious support in the creativity department.  A HUGE thanks to Ms. Cupcake and Miss Kindergarten for some pretty rockin’ units.  If you haven’t seen these yet, you should really check them out.

Today we started the Fire Safety Tips Craftivity by Ms. Cupcake, discussed fire safety in general, and completed a retell of the story Firefighter Ted (any ditty that ends with someone in their undies becomes an instant fave for me).  If you haven’t seen this book, click on the link below to take a closer look.  The kids couldn’t stop laughing at this one . . . you know what that means . . . INSTANT buy-in ๐Ÿ™‚

Tomorrow I am rolling with Miss Kindergarten’s Stop, Drop, and Roll Craftivity, more of Ms. Cupcakes firefighter goodness, and a writing template that I made (see below).  I decided to work in a little letter writing practice this week via a thank you note to the local firemen.  The kids can tell them something that they learned as well as show their appreciation.  I think the whole activity will turn out to be a win-win for everyone involved.  These cute little letters will be hand-delivered by little old me after school tomorrow . . . I hope it will be a nice surprise :).  On that note, if you are interested in rolling with this, click on the image below.  Yup, it’s free today (well, it’s free pretty much forever, but it rolled off the tongue so much better the “today” way . . . so much more dramatic . . . hehehehe).

I heart you Hello Literacy & JW Illustrations.  You always make me look good ๐Ÿ™‚

Alright folks, I am out of here.  Need to take a little nappy or I won’t be able to get much done on my “To-Do List” this evening.  You sill have until midnight tonight to enter my 1K Follower Giveaway.  I will draw that winner tomorrow after school ๐Ÿ™‚  Hugs friends.
