Although it may be difficult to believe, the 100th Day is looming for many of us. With this said, here are a few quick and easy ideas to help inject those celebrations with a little standards-based fun!
TEN FRAME PARTY HATS
We all know that 100th Day hats are a must. However, if my old principal taught me anything, it was to keep your eye on the prize. With this said, why not make a hat that is festive AND targets a standard? I came up with the idea of
Kinder is all about the ten frame these days and I know my little firsties have been working on making tens like crazy. With this said, I slammed these two ideas together to create a different kind of 100th Day hat!
**NOTE – Okay . . . so I was hoping to get a picture of a cute kid sporting this during our celebration last year, but alas, I failed at this endeavor. You know how things just get away from you and the activity ends before you even think to dig in your pocket for your phone??!! Yup, that was me last February. So, please excuse my dippy personal pict from like four years ago on this one (I don’t even look like this any more #thewrinkleshavecome) :P**
The 100th Day link still may be a little fuzzy on this particular project, so let me explain my wild thought process on this one. I tend to connect dots in obscure ways, so stick with me for just a moment. Alright, so . . . 10 tens equals 100. Therefore, if we use the 10 main facts to ten (10+0, 9+1, 8+2, 7+3, 6+4, 5+5, 4+6, 3+7, 2+8, and 1+9), we hit that magnificent 100 mark!
This craftivity is pretty easy to run with on your own if you are willing to toss a tad of your prep time its way. Simply create a ten frame/equation template for your babes and use a sentence strip instead of my headband template. If you don’t want to take the time and are still interested, this ditty is available in my Ten Frame Party Hat Packet (it just received a facelift too)! In addition to the hat, it includes a handful of follow-up activities as well as a very special 100th Day song from Ron Brown’s Intelli-Tunes (MP3 and Lyrics). Yup, the song is part of the package . . . BOOM!
100TH DAY BULLHORNS
Add a little standards-based whimsy to your hundredth day with these quick and easy bullhorns. We always run with these during the 100th Day and the kids can’t get enough of them! Simply copy on card stock, invite the kiddos to decorate them how they see fit, and glue or staple in a cone shape. But, wait . . . why stop here. Add an additional standard to this one. Have your students write a handful of -ay words on their horns, list ten facts to ten, skip count to 100 around the edge of their creations, etc. The sky is the limit. Oh, and if you’re willing to step out of the box a bit, you can sneak in one more standard here. It’s so much fun to skip count to 100 in oodles of different ways and march around the classroom/campus with these . . . it’s always HUGE hit 🙂 This quick and easy template is available for free download HERE.
100 ACTS OF KINDNESS
As I started to get my celebratory plans together this year, I wanted to do something a little different that carried on past the 100th Day of school. With this said, I came up with a 100 Acts of Kindness Challenge. My goal was/is to create an event that challenges kids to “put their best foot forward” on a daily basis by challenging them to work together to accomplish 100 acts of kindness within a specific time frame. (I plan on rocking with this one throughout the month of February as our 100th Day is during the final week of January.) To make this easy on myself, I whipped up a little FREEBIE packet. This ditty includes 100 kindness cards, individual tracking sheets, a Kindness Song by Ron Brown’s Intelli-Tunes, and a print and go school to home component (letter to parents and Caught Being Kind Cards). Read more about this idea HERE and snag a copy of this feel-good collection HERE.
Alright friends . . . I am out of here. Thanks for taking a moment to pop in and visit me today.
