GOOD MORNING WORK
So, I ran with the first page in my September Good Morning Work Packet and it worked like a charm. I was a little worried that they weren’t going to be all that independent after the long holiday weekend, but it was the complete opposite. It was eerily quiet and they seemed to really enjoy it – chalk it up for yesterday’s “peak” not “pit.”
TEA PARTIES
Once the lunch coma kicked in, I knew it was time to break out the math games to keep ’em hooked. We used Katie King’s Number Word Memory Game pieces to have a number word tea party. This was a pretty dippy idea, but they ate it up . . . RANDOM. They loved sneaking around the room trying to find their match (# word to #).
They were so polite about the whole thing. It cracked me up! We used these same cards to play Number Word Memory today. Two birds one BIG stone . . . THANKS KATIE! |
HALLMARK CREATIONS
Grandparents Day is right around the corner and all the teachers are hosting a dessert in their classrooms on Friday. I had this big old step-by-step art project planned for the invitation, but I could tell they were done listening to me. SO, I turned on some music, broke out the scrap bin and let ’em go. They had a ball with this and it seemed to be just what they needed 🙂

Isn't it . . . it so much easier when you don't hold yourself to everything written in your plan book.

I love the flexibility of teaching…I am a spontaneous kind of gal. It is important to be able to read the mood of your class and change things accordingly.

I love the graphic on the Good Morning Work–she is so cute. Where'd you find her? I love morning work too…. I do a mystery word ( a 9 letter word in a grid like tic-tac-toe) they make as many words as they can with the letters and see if they can figure out the BIG 9 Letter word. It always amazes me to see my 1st graders wheels spinning trying to figure them out.
