That little chill in the morning air . . . the extra cozy feeling in your house in the evening . . . the way the sun looks in the sky. Do you feel it?? I sure do and I couldn’t be happier. FALL is HERE!!! This is hands down my favorite time of year. Okay, so my two favorite holidays happen to hit during this stellar season (in addition to my birthday), but that just makes it all the sweeter. Bring it on FALL . . . I have missed you!
With this said, I have two fall ditties for you. I managed to buckle down on Saturday and finish my October 2nd Grade Good Morning Work – Reading Packet (it was our first rain of the season . . . and it was SO hard not to cuddle up under a blanket with my pup and watch college football). Chalk one up for my “focus and get ‘er done” stamina . . . who knew??!!
As always, I “chunked” my topics in this one. In other words, the same 5-6 common core standards are targeted for an entire week. This allows your kids to be much more independent in the AM. AND . . . it provides you with a little more wiggle room during those chaotic mornings. My thought here is that you highlight it once on Monday (maybe again on Tuesday if need be) and you are pretty much home free for the rest of the week.
I also have tried to time the order of the standards to give you time to teach the material. I’ve spoken to several 2nd grade teachers and I am really laboring to get the pacing right. I don’t want to give your babes too many standards that they haven’t seen yet.
This collection covers everything from proper nouns, commas in a series, and detailed sentence writing to prefixes/suffixes, vowel teams, and shades of meaning (verbs)!! CLICK HERE to check out this pack.
Oh, and maybe . . . just maybe . . . you wanna “try before you buy??” Well, you are in luck. Snag the three pages shown down below to use with your crew HERE. If you like what you see unfold in your room, come on back and treat yo-self to the whole pack (it’s only $3 for a whole month of learning)!
Changing gears a bit and gettin’ back to my sweet little firsties, we officially introduced nouns today. We sang the rockin’ Nouns Song Ron Brown’s Intelli-Tunes, read “A Mink, A Fink, A Skating Rink” by B. Cleary, and completed a little whole class pocket chart sort. Tomorrow we will be doing a fun little magazine picture hunt/collage and on Wednesday we will roll with a seasonal Noun Hunt. Guess what . . . I made this one is a FREEBIE in my shop! Hot dog ๐
Alright, dinner has been waiting on the stove for about 38 minutes. I think the mister has been more than patient . . . huh?? Thanks so much for stoppin’ by my friends. Hang in there y’all. We can do this ๐ See you soon gang!

Ahhh fall! Not feeling too fallish here with insane temps and the kids melting at recess. But hopefully it will start feeling more like fall soon.
Love the morning work and the noun hunt! We are gearing up for nouns as well and love the idea of a hunt. Keeps it fun and gets them excited.

I just introduced nouns yesterday so I was excited to pick up your freebie, too. I pinned it too! Enjoy your fall!
