Oh baby!! It’s been four very long years, but here they come. Are you ready? I say bring on those wonderful Winter Olympics already!! With all of this excitement runnin’ through my veins, I have been channeling it into some serious themed work. Okay, so truth be told, I have been going a bit nutty in the Olympics department as of late. BUT, I just know that my crew is gonna eat this stuff up.
With this said, I just couldn’t help myself. One more game. Just . . . One. More. Game. However, since this was slated to make it into one of my packs and it failed to do so, let’s make this one a FREEBIE.
I bring you Rollin’ Out the Rings . . . a fast-paced Common Core aligned place value game. This ditty is played in partners and targets comparing and ordering numbers.
How do you play, you ask?? Well, it’s pretty easy and you’ll be able to use this one when the Summer Olympics roll around again.
All ya need are some game boards and some dice. Students square off rolling dice (one at a time) to build numbers in the tens or hundreds (it’s your call . . . both versions are included). Now, some stragegy goes into the placement of these numbers. The overall goal of this game is to fill the rings on your game board with numbers from least to greatest before your partner does (blue, black, red, yellow, and green). Therefore, if a child rolls a 62, he/she would most likely place it in the green ring. However, if a child rolls a 33, he/she would want to place it in the black or red ring.
Don’t forget that template is included that works with numbers in the hundreds ๐ |
Oh, and for a little added sizzle, players can loose turns . . . hehehehehe! If a number is rolled that cannot be placed in the rings without wrecking the least to greatest number pattern, they hand the dice over without writing a thing. Students will typically fit in multiple games before the center or activity ends! A more detailed description is included in the freebie download ๐
This file also includes a center follow up game that is played individually. It’s very similar to the partner game, but dice rolls are recorded on the lines and then transferred into the rings.
So, did I peak your interest? Well, CLICK HERE and download this little ditty for FREE! Think of it as a small gift from one Olympic lover to another ๐
Speaking of the Olympics, I managed to rock out a fun little Olympic Flavored Printable Packet as well. Similar to my Chinese New Year collection, this was tailor made for 1st and 2nd graders. It even targets specific Common Core standards and they are LISTED out for ya on the “What’s Included” page! How’s that for being helpful? We sure do try around here ๐
Okay . . . now I am out. Thanks for taking the time to visit today. I’ll see you soon with another freebie and some fresh ideas. I have a few new thoughts floating around in that scary noggin of mine – look out! Enjoy the rest of your week my friends. Late.
