It’s that time when I get the privilege of sharing my thoughts on a Carson-Dellosa product that I was able to use in my classroom. This round I was able to choose a word game (um . . . right up my alley). The kids were all about this fun dice ditty.
The company sent me a game called, WORD PASS. It comes in an easy to store tube and contains a handful of word family dice, a mini pencil and a little pad of paper. The word families covered range from simple CVC and CVCe to more advanced vowel team endings. I absolutely LOVED this feature as I played this game with all of my reading groups. I was able to pick a different die to use with each group . . . one that was right at their level! #score
Kids roll the dice and attempt to write as many words in that “family” as possible before someone yells, “PASS!” A timer is set and the goal is to come up with as many REAL words as possible before the timer expires.
The thing I loved about this game was that I could easily change it up to fit what I specifically wanted. The original rules worked for my higher kids, but were a little intense for my low babes. I was able to morph the game just enough to fit their needs – I yelled pass when I saw them struggling and I often would whisper initial sounds. Either way we played it . . . the kids were drooling all over themselves and it proved to be a wonderful center activity.
The only thing I changed was the paper size. The little pad was just not big enough for my babies in first (IMO). Therefore, I quickly whipped up a word pass sheet that would allow them to write like they normally do . . . BIG ๐ I could also see this working well with a chopped piece of newsprint.
When all was said and done, I felt oh so great about this game. The kids loved it and it will definitely make multiple appearances this year!

Thank you so much for this post. I went to the Carson-Delosa website and the game was 50% off. Plus I ordered a lot more games by Brighter Child. Can't wait to use them with me class.
